As a small town southern girl, born and raised for the most part in rural South Carolina, I have always respected my roots.
And while my artistic journey began at the ripe old age of 7, it really did not take root until my junior year at the University of South Carolina.
Following a year abroad, I came back to USC my junior/senior year with a worldliness that change the course of how I would interpret the world. It was during this time that I had the fortune to work on the newly acquired “”Movietone News”” Exhibit at Mckissick Museum and the world renowned “”Pop”” artist exhibit featuring Jasper Johns. This experience opened my eyes to the possibilities of what “”art”” can be!
Since that time, I have been on a journey of exploration which has led me to the medium of collage. I love the elements of collage. The fact that one can take already existing images with meaning in their own right and reinvent them to express a sociopolitical critique, pays homage to my humble roots!
