Kathleen Digney is a figurative painter who creates commissioned and non-commissioned portraits. She has spent over 25 years working in both the applied and fine arts disciplines. Upon graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, she applied her skills to the practice of medical illustration. Kathleen spent the first part of her career working as a medical illustrator for hospitals, medical legal firms and publishing companies.
Over the past 15 years, she has focused her energy on portraiture and the art of capturing the human form using various media including oil and mixed media. Currently, she is working on a body of work titled Portraits of American Teens. When complete, the series will consist of eight to ten large oil paintings of individual teenagers. These do not, nor are they designed to, capture only the likeness of the sitter but rather express a moment in their life. For teenagers, each moment is pivotal and character-forming, yet, rapidly evolving. When seen together, the series will also illustrate the diversity found in American teens today.
Kathleen resides in Taylors, South Carolina after moving to the Upstate five years ago after spending most of her career in Ohio. In addition to her painting, Kathleen teaches drawing and painting at the Spartanburg Art Museum's Art School in Spartanburg, SC. Her work can be seen at the Artists Guild Gallery in Greenville and on her website at www.kathleendigney.
