Joshua Brinlee was born in Morgan City, Louisiana, and was raised in Franklin, Tennessee. He received his MFA from Memphis College of Art with an emphasis in studio art. Brinlee is an Assistant Professor of Art in the Art & Art History Department at the University of Mississippi, where he also serves as the Foundations Coordinator.
Brinlee’s work examines and challenges ideas of originality, authorship, identity, and gender. Utilizing photography and digital collage, he creates large scale images that are digitally constructed to support the themes in his work. His work has been exhibited at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN, the Oso Bay Biennial XIX at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christie, TX, the Delta National Small Prints Exhibition at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR, Clough-Hanson Gallery at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, and more recently, the 58th Mid-American Art Exhibition at the Evansville Museum of Art in Indiana.
