Brittany Smith has her Master of Arts in Art History with a minor in Studio Art from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Her art career began when she was eight years old and created her first portfolio for the Horizons Fine Arts Program in Florence District One Schools. Brittany continued to practice art seriously throughout her childhood in the IB Program and at West Florence High School. She competed and received a Visual Arts Scholarship to attend Converse College. Brittany also participated in a study abroad program to Aix-en-Provence, France (the birthplace of Paul Cezanne). There she took courses that focused entirely on Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cezanne and spent her time visiting the locations of many of their most famous paintings. This experience greatly influence her art once she returned to the United States. A couple of years ago, Brittany switched from oil painting to encaustic painting. She felt that she needed to challenge herself artistically. Brittany learned encaustic under the mentorship of her former painting professor from Converse, Teresa Prater. Brittany's encaustic paintings were accepted and featured in Juried Art Shows in Spartanburg. Brittany has also served as an Artist-in-Residence and has taught the encaustic process to elementary aged students in several summer art camps.
