Summerville, SC
Lowcountry artist, Carla Johannesmeyer, grew up in the Shenandoah Valley where she gained a deep appreciation of the arts at an early age. Combining her love of art with a natural gift in math, she studied Architecture at Virginia Tech. She enhanced her education with studio classes in drawing, printmaking, photography, and film animation. Carla went on to have a successful career as an architect and design leader. With this professional background coupled with her love of the arts, she is now immersed in painting.
Today, she expresses through her paintings, sublime moments and dreams of a lifetime. Carla’s oil paintings are reminiscent of post-impressionists, but border on expressionism. There is a lyrical quality to her work. She prefers a large brush relative to the size of the canvas, and paints with visible confident brush strokes of layering color to evoke light, shadow, and reflections in her landscape, architectural, still life, and figurative visual narratives. She has a style uniquely her own.
Carla lives in Summerville, SC, with her husband, Dale where she is devoted full time to her art. Her work has been juried into exhibits at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, City of Charleston Waterfront Gallery, and the Gibes Art Museum. Her paintings are in private collections in Canada, Switzerland and throughout the United States. Her award winning work can be viewed online.
