New Orleans, LA
Introspective and adventurous, Joseph Walton has photographed his surroundings since he was a youth growing up in Kansas City, MO, and then honed his skills in Chicago under the guidance of Jai Girard.
After relocating to New Orleans in 2011, where he was mentored by Louis Sahuc, his work took on new depth as he sought to capture spontaneous moments and movements of the dynamic, colorful city and its inhabitants. Much of his photography incorporates street scenes, musicians, fellow artists, revelers, and tourists against a backdrop of historic architecture, urban decay and lush greenery.
For more than 10 years, Walton has curated photography exhibitions at various galleries around the United States, including those in his hometowns, New Orleans and Chicago. His work has been featured in “Black and White” magazine, and several of his New Orleans portraits reside in the permanent collection of the Embassy of the United States in Moscow. Additionally, his art has been featured in the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center.
Walton has always been interested and inspired by the people he meets, the places he visits; he captures his surroundings with both a journalistic and artistic sensibility as both a keen observer and an active participant.
