Rial Rye (b. 1987) is a self-taught, mixed-media artist based in Atlanta, GA. As a queer, multiracial person, he is inspired by the fact that his identity disrupts the binaristic logics which dictate the distribution of power in America. Aesthetically, Rye similarly challenges boundaries of movements, styles, and periods by blending elements from diverse traditions, including NaĆvism, Neo-Expressionism, Cubism, and traditional African and North American art. Thematically, his work explores grief and trauma. Rye is currently a Studio Artist at the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center. His work has been exhibited in solo and duo shows at ArtPrize 2023, The Creative Arts Guild of Georgia, and The Artistry Workshops & Gallery, and group shows hosted by Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, Swan Coach House Gallery, Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs, and Atlanta Botanical Gardens. His artistic journey has been the topic of numerous popular press articles, including a cover story by The Georgia Voice.
