Cape Charles, VA
Barbara Hennig-Loomis is a German born artist living in Cape Charles, Virginia after having lived in various parts of the U.S. and Europe. She holds a B.F.A. in Art History, an M.F.A. in Visual Studies, and studied Art History as a Fulbright Fellow in Germany. In addition to being a working artist, she conducts classes and workshops exploring drawing and painting at various regional institutions. Drawing is her true love, and she is a portraitist at heart, enjoying the collaborative nature of that process. She is also a practitioner of the anachronistic medium of silverpoint, and most recently has planted her energies in a body of large-scale drawings exploring trees and ghost forests. Her roots in art history inform both her practice and her teaching and she believes in paying attention: casual parentheticals are often the most revealing sources of information and inspiration.
