Marcella Kuykendall is a mixed media sculptor who deals primarily with the figure. Her work focuses on exposing underlying feelings of insignificance and the psyche's attempt to escape from them. Clay and paper provide the main construction materials for the artist's current body of work, although the artist has experimented with a variety of media including metal, Styrofoam and fiberglass.
Currently a graduate student at the University of South Carolina, Marcella is earning her Master's in Fine Art for studio and a certificate in museum management. She has been involved in several public art projects, including Howl for UWG in Carrollton, Georgia and a restoration of the Summerhill Rebirth sculpture in Atlanta, Georgia. The artist has also been involved in the community arts through her work with S.C.R.A.P. Bin, the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville and children's art workshops. Her personal work has been displayed in regional venues, including JC Morgan Art Gallery in Oxford, Alabama and Tapp's Arts Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
