As a child of the 1950's in North Carolina, I was shooed outside in the morning, free to explore my world until suppertime. I was an avid collector of rocks, leaves, and oddities that I thought were beautiful. At age eight I learned to knit and was hooked. Sixty plus years later I feel just like that child again-free to play in my studio, still collecting oddities, and knitting on my own terms.
I studied art at UNC-Chapel Hill, receiving a BFA in 1974. After earning a MFA in painting and drawing from Auburn University, I taught there for several years.
In 1984 I moved to Wilmington, NC and worked as a scenic artist in the film industry. I was a founding board member and teacher for DREAMS of Wilmington, a non-profit that provides free arts education for underprivileged youth. After raising two artsy daughters, I quickly moved into full time artist mode. My current work combines botanical contact printing, knitting, and stitching with a painterly feel.
