New Zion, SC
The winding limbs of pecan and oak trees surrounded Jennifer Altman growing up in the rural south. Her artwork reflects Southern scenes that that have both amazed and intrigued her since childhood. These rural, untamed elements are fragments of the South. They are representations of moments when she felt small against the untamed beauty of the area. Each painting reflects a part of Southern landscape or life that she feels should be preserved.
The artist has her master’s degree in school psychology and is a psychologist living in the local community. Jennifer began creating oil paintings in college. Over the past years, she has further developed her skills through weekly painting technique classes under artist William McCullough and has thoroughly studied the plein air painting technique in Southern France. Jennifer also enjoys painting live models and recreating historical photographs. She finds her greatest satisfaction lies in conveying landscapes, architecture, and people within the rural South.
