Born in Washington, D.C. in 1968, then moving to Myrtle Beach at the age of five, Lori Leist spent her childhood playing on the beaches and marshland of South Carolina. As an adult she lived in Maui, Hawaii, and Santa Rosa, California where she was a studio artist and teacher at Santa Rosa Stained Glass from 1996 to 2002. She moved to Charleston, SC in 2003, where she currently resides with her husband.
Leist graduated from the College of Charleston Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in Studio Art in December 2013. Her work has been shown in student group shows including the Hill Gallery at the College of Charleston 2012 and 2013, The Young Contemporaries at the Halsey Gallery 2013 and 2014, and The Salon Des Refuses in the Hill Gallery at the College of Charleston 2014. She is the recipient of the 2014 Seltzer Prize in Studio Art for the College of Charleston.
Leist’s work is representative of her connection to the Lowcountry landscape and its Southern fertile ground. Painting and printmaking are her primary media. Her latest artwork is a collection of 50 monotype prints done at Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC. Her work can be seen in multiple restaurants and private homes in the North and Southeast.
