George Down received a five year Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from Syracuse University in 1964. He studied under Arthur Pulos a pioneer in the field of Industrial Design and founded the first university ID program in the US at Syracuse University. Dr. Pulos was his mentor who he worked for summers as an Intern at Pulos Desigssociates. Down worked for the Canadian government from 1964-1967 designing the exhibits for the Man and Life pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal. He then worked for Chapman, Goldsmith and Yamasaki, the largest design firm in the US at that time. Dave Chapman is recognized as one of the 10 founders of Down’s profession. In his career, Down founded Design realizations Ltd. in Skaneateles, NY, where he was President for 25 years. DR Ltd. specialized in product design, corporate communications and trade show booths. DR Ltd. had a staff of 30 associates. For a period of time while President of DR Ltd. he was an Adjunct Professor teaching Advance Design for fifth year students at Syracuse University.
In Down’s working career he spent five years in Colorado Springs, CO, greatly admired south West art and decided to find a way to express my artistic abilities through that genre. He participates in 2-4 juried Artisan shows each year in Virginia and North Carolina.
