For this piece, I was inspired by the beautiful hydrangea gardens in Japan. These gardens are present throughout all of Japan due to the cultural significance and meaning of the hydrangea. This flower has been associated with heartfelt emotion, gratitude for understanding, and apology. I wanted to show the beauty of these gardens in an abstract way using a unique medium. I made this piece by drawing the outline of the scene I wanted to use onto a piece of felt. I then used various colors of wool to create the scene by needle felting them onto the felt. I followed the outlines to create the various aspects of the scene. I mixed different colors of wool to add variation to the limited colors I had and used white wool to add more light to the piece as if the sun was beaming down on the garden. I have grown to love wool and have used it for many of my pieces to add a unique texture.
