As a transgender man, I am faced with the constant pressure to fit into a box, an idea of what a man should be. The consequences for being who I am can be fatal. We see it everywhere: on the news, across social media. Person after person spewing hatred, life after life being lost. And why? Is it too much for us to be our true authentic selves? I've been assaulted, berated, and abused for not fitting into society's idea of a man. I can't even walk home from school without getting trash thrown at me from my fellow students’ car windows, and getting called things like "tranny" and “freak." I try to ignore the violence, to tell myself that it doesn't affect me, but I cannot ignore what's all around me.
