With autism, there are lots of challenges that are more internal than external. The biggest struggle I face is the scene of being trapped in areas full of people. To a neurotypical person being in a room packed with people may seem uncomfortable or kinda stuffy, but they seem to not stress out as badly as a neurodivergent would. People who are on the spectrum may feel like they are in danger, no room to leave, the sense of touching or being touched by another, or just the sounds that everyone makes at the same time can send an autistic person to the point of a breakdown. With my art, I wanted to show others what my mental state goes through every time I’m in a closed up area shared with large groups. On the surface it seems to not have much harm, but underneath it can be overwhelming for the one who's forced to go through with it.
