A house is many things- privacy, security, comfort. It is both a want and a need. We would like something charming. We would like something to flaunt and brandish. Just as well, we need something to protect our heads from rain and a place to lay our heads at night. Much in the same way, we crave books and knowledge when stories are essential for survival. Books give us the same comfort of thick walls in winter and the same protection as a sturdy roof over our heads. A house should have good character, and a book should have many characters. I created this artwork to show how these two things- a house and a book- can come together. For a reader, a house is a place to store books, and a book stores many houses within its pages. Authors, much like architects, fill their spaces with rich textures and vibrant colors. As a visual artist, this artwork represents two other art forms that I greatly admire- literature and architecture.
