My inspirations for the physical style of this piece was traditional Vietnamese clothing. This is to show how this generational trauma of the repression of emotions is passed throughout each generation before and now to me. This artwork is a representation of this rage that must be hidden. While the woman is concealed behind the fan with a neutral face, the spectators can clearly see the dragon's violent anger right in front of her. Even though silence can sometimes be a sign of rage, silence is frequently mistaken for compliance. Rage also can be viewed as a sign of weakness or disrespect which then leads to the repression of one’s self and the harboring of pain in the soul.
