Artist Statement

My motivation for painting the Cardinals is a legend that says, "Cardinals appear when angels are near". Many people, my mom included, associate Cardinals with lost loved ones. My mom told me the Cardinals that live in our yard only appeared shortly after her parents passed away over 20 years ago. I never got the chance to meet my grandparents, so I feel this is their way of visiting us.
