After The Storm is a self portrait done with colored pencil, acrylic paint, and alcohol marker. The idea of this drawing is inspired by the quote, “After the storm is when the flowers bloom.” This quote is very inspiring to many, because no matter how hard a part of life can get, it will work out in the end if you persevere. This drawing shows the positive side of a potential journey in life, and is a physical manifestation of the outcome of persevering through a hardship. The heart represents how even after one’s struggle, the lessons learned from a hardship are everlasting. When working on this piece, I made a base layer in the background and layered everything else on top of it. I did this to create the effect of a garden, with everything falling into their own places in unison. There are 3D effects shown by the flowers, leaves, and heart popping out on the paper. I worked very hard on this piece, and I am satisfied with the final result.
