My photograph “Finally Free” shows a profile being split in half to let butterflies free. The imagery consists of my photograph and other photoshop elements such as gradients, ellipses, overlays, and vignettes for dimension. My biggest struggle with this piece was starting from scratch, just the blank document, but this helped me learn new techniques for more complex imagery moving forward. The main idea for this image was the message of finally feeling like yourself again, removing the mask and letting others see your true self. The past year of my life has been extremely difficult grappling relationships with others, and especially myself. I went through a dark time of feeling like I was living outside of myself, and when I healed and started letting others see who I was again, I immediately wanted to capture it. Photography and art are such major outlets for me and my emotions, and this piece represents my breath of fresh air and finally feeling like I was free after so long.
