I believe this piece is so meaningful because of its interpretation. I have been told so many take-aways from this piece, and yet all of them seem to be somewhat different. Something as simple as a hand gripping skin can lead to so many emotions from multitudes of different people. I believe this message is also reflected by the medium. Charcoal is so easily changed, and smeared, and yet its delicacy, just like the delicacy of skin, is what makes the details of the piece so enticing and beautiful.
