This painting depicts my father thinking. It started out as a snapshot of him attempting to come up with a drawing idea for me to do. He is a complicated individual. Before anything is stated, it is thoroughly considered and organized, much like a game of chess. When I was stuck with generic ideas, he would always be able to come up with something new, and his words actually served as inspiration for many of my art pieces. I made an effort to depict his complex personality through color by using a range of hues on his face, including green, blue, and purple. He had a sorrowful expression that was hidden from view, similar to how warm hues overwhelm the cool colors. To visualize what was going through his head, I created a background using warm gray strokes of various colors. Warm colors reflect his aspirational and autocratic ideas, yet gray tones reflect his lack of severe impulsivity. I believe my dad really inspired me, as he was the first person to put pencil to my hand.
