For this piece I painted a fictitious interpretation of the ingredients in a traditional Nigerian dish called Jollof Rice. My hand is dropping all of the instructions, ingredients, and measurements of how this rice is made. This artwork represents my Nigerian culture, and how I have worked to embrace and be a part of it. Ever since I was a little girl I have been cooking with my family and learning what it means to be from West Africa. I used this painting to represent my heritage and life. My goal was to portray the colorful and beautiful ways of my culture through the food and spices that are used in the making of Jollof Rice.
