Marsha P. Johnson is one of the most prominent figures of the gay movement. She was a bold and eccentric woman who fought not only for her identity but for her community. Marsha was an outspoken advocate, even going so far as to put her life at risk to speak out against the prejudice levied on many LGBTQ+ members by the government. Marsha went on to found the Gay Liberation Front, which provided meeting places for the newly radicalized community. She also went on to co-found STAR, Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries, which advocated for gay rights as well as other civil rights. She also co-founded the STAR House, a haven for homeless gay youth. Marsha was willing to not only risk her life in front of many riots and protests, but she was also willing to sacrifice her body to protect the homeless who had been abandoned by their conservative government and society.
