Every year, the Sockeye salmon of Alaska migrate from the ocean into freshwater rivers and lakes to spawn. Their lives are characterized by this mass migration, which also benefits the environment as they fertilize the soil and create economic prosperity for the region. Just like the salmon, I have also migrated a lot in my life. I have moved from place to place, living in 6 different houses all across the South. Along with this idea of relating my past to the salmon, I would like to relate my future to them as well. One of my goals for my future is to have a positive effect on others' lives, just like these salmon make a positive impact on their environment. In this work I have included 17 different fish to represent my age along with the 4 clusters of salmon eggs splayed across the rocks in the background to represent the foundational 4 years of growth and development you make in your first 4 years of life.
