As I was first thinking about the idea of making a plaster piece, my attention was drawn to pictures of alebrijes due to their colors and movement. Immediately I was inspired and felt it was necessary to incorporate those elements into my work. I experimented with integrating elements like movement through the body by adding a twist to the wire framework and a dynamic pose displaying the head lower to the ground while the behind towered above it. There are other intricate designs on the piece like the dotted border and the designs in the stripes that lead to the head, where every stripe has a complex pattern, as well as the 'mane' which is made from fake fur. The designs in the stripes were inspired by the alebrijes that I had seen, but also specifically from my enjoyment of zentangles which were one of my first ventures into the world of visual art when I was in elementary school, tying my piece back to my roots.
