This body of work dives into my experience with recovering from anorexia, and explores the process and stages of recovery. In this series of three wall pieces, I utilize visuals such as color and anatomical motifs, to symbolize the emotions significant to each stage of recovering. The skeletal motifs represent when I was at my sickest and had the least amount of life in me. I used cool colors to represent depression, anxiety, fear, and the brighter warmer colors are symbolic of healing, happiness, and freedom. Nature has served as a space for grounding and refocusing during times of distress, which has led me to using floral motifs in my work. Throughout my portfolio, I experimented with fabric dyeing, beading, and embroidery, as well as collage and paper weaving. Using ephemera from my past, such as photos and journal entries, I created paper weaving as a metaphor for rebuilding and recovery-assembling parts of my past-self and my current-self.
