Throughout the world, dance is a way to connect people through movement and body language. It is a way of communicating that has the ability to express emotions and tell stories, a way not bound by a language barrier or discrimination. Culture has shaped the many different styles of dance in ways no one could ever try to understand. This piece only goes through three of these ways culture has shaped dance. These include Hula from Hawaii, a storytelling style which uses chants (oli) and songs (mele), Dunhuang from China, a graceful art expressing emotions through silk ribbons, and Flamenco from Spain, a passionate style of dance blending rhythmic footwork (zapateado) and expressive arm movements (braceo). Though these places differ greatly in geography, culture, politics, and people, each and everyone of them embraces a way of communicating to spread who they are around the world-a way that will continue to impact the world in a great way through the rest of time.
