Since retiring from a career in music education, I have been exploring art through quilting. I have worked with fabric since I was a child, sewing things to look at, wear, and use. Much of my quilt work has been representational, trying to capture in fabric what I see in nature and everyday life. Now I am beginning to create compositions that are abstract and improvisational using the fundamentals of art such as shape, line, and color. I often include an element of or reference to music. My work has been exhibited at the SC State Fair, winning three awards, twice in a solo show at the art gallery at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia, Gallery West in West Columbia, SC, juried into USC’s McKissick Museum twice, and ArtFields in 2015, 2016. I was chosen as an artist-in-residence for the SC Sate Parks in 2014.
