Lauren Woods is an artist whose practice and creative research explore the concept of mythic time within the environment of the theater. Artworks become a space to examine notions of gender, sentimentality, desire, power, beauty, death, and embodied expression. Personal myth, both in terms of subject matter and what it means to be a female artist, is developed visually across various mediums such as painting, video, and dance performance.
In 2006, Lauren received her BA in studio art from Spring Hill College. She then completed an MFA in painting at the New York Academy of Art, Graduate School of Figurative Art in 2010. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Art & Art History at Auburn University. Before teaching at Auburn, she taught drawing and painting at Spring Hill College and The University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
