Ciera’s Fight represents one’s courage to keep going. It celebrates a strong Black woman who is a mother, daughter, friend, and my big sister. Growing up, Ciera and I would fight like most brothers and sisters do, but she always had my back no matter what. She was the toughest person I knew, and she never backed down from any challenge. To this day, my sister is still a fighter; but this time, she’s fighting for her life. Ciera has been squaring off with ovarian cancer since early 2021, but even on tough days, she keeps smiling. Through this piece, I honor my sister and encourage other women battling this cancer to keep fighting.
