"Preparation" depicts my father's head getting shaved before his brain tumor treatment. It's my mother's hands poised above his head with the razor while he bows his head, towel around his shoulders, almost in prayerful repose. For placement of his adhesive arrays, Mom has been shaving his head 3-4 times a week ever since this moment. Treatment far surpassed his doctors' expectations, shrinking the tumor to less than half its original size, but Dad can't help but feel disappointed that it's still there at all. I've long felt that portrait painting could channel healing energy to the subject, and the more eyes on the painting, the more energy can be channeled into the subject's healing. So I continue to paint special moments with Dad and seeking ways for more people to share in his healing.
