My work draws inspiration from classical sculpture and the human body. In this piece, I explore a dynamic composition of hands and arms that both supports and restricts itself. Recently, I have found myself in a similar experience wherein I am driven by my desire to create yet restricted by my own anxieties that say I am not good enough, or not progressing fast enough. In this piece, I respond to these anxieties by alluding to bodily discomfort and tension through grabbing, tugging, and stretching. I chose this piece for ArtFields because of its current relevance to me, and for its demonstration of my fondness for craft. I find a great joy in pushing myself to accomplish bigger compositions with increasingly more detail; and I fulfill a childlike mischief by inserting elements of deception and bodily mimicry. I hope that in viewing my work, one will be drawn in by the composition, confronted by the details, and urged to reflect on what restricts them in their daily lives.
