Artist Statement

I have been working on a series of paintings of the small neighborhood where I live in Columbia, South Carolina. These works are an attempt to capture a fleeting moment in time that resonates with the eternal. They are not meant to be portraits of places as much as emotional responses to the beauty and magic that appears in daily scenes of the "ordinary."

Artist Biography

Gregory Wilkin

Columbia, SC

Gregory Wilkin is a professional artist with a lengthy exhibition history. He is currently working on a series of paintings of the historic neighborhood, Melrose Heights,Columbia, where he and his wife reside. Wilkin has been profiled in a variety of national publications including: Country Living Magazine, Yankee Magazine, Portland Press Herald, Maine Boats and Harbors, and the Bangor Daily News. His work has appeared in the Senate building in Washington, DC, his work was chosen to be reproduced for the cover of the 2000 International UNICEF Christmas Card, and his work has been used on a variety of sets for HBO films.
