This piece shows my personal experiences with being mixed race. In my composition, there is a fork and chopsticks pulling at my head. The fork represents my American side and the chopsticks represent my Japanese side. There is a variety of fruits in my hair to symbolize myself as a cake. I chose to represent myself as a cake because they are delicate and easy to tear apart. That is how I feel when having to balance two cultures simultaneously. I often have to adapt to either side of my culture, which causes me to struggle and feel that I will tear apart. I feel like I have to conform to one side or another and that I cannot fully embrace both sides of my culture.
