Artist Statement
I started my artwork by going through old photos I had taken. This particular photo with the roots sticking out of the soil made me think about how it is holding strong even though it has been through so much. I also remembered, when I took this photo in DownTown Greenville, I saw many homeless people around the area near the trees. With these ideas in mind, I came up with the idea of making the man and the tree a double exposure to show a story. We do not know what these people have been through or how they got to Greenville. Maybe they have been there for a while or they are just passing through. But whatever their story is and no matter how their life is going they are still holding on like the roots of the tree is to the land.
