Since I was young, I have been fascinated with clowns. I feel that they are beautifully unique, their representations switching from joyous to terrifying within no time at all. In this piece, I wanted to capture both sides of clowns in the same moment. There is something immediately uncomfortable about their contorted, misshapen bodies, which is contrasted by their bright, fun palettes. Chalk pastels were the obvious medium of choice to me for this piece. They create a chaos, the strokes are left unrefined, and the pastels show many layers of the art all at the same time. Clowns are my forever fixation, and their dichotomous existence makes them a special kind of weird.
