Ava Hussey

My name is Ava Hussey and I am a senior in the Advanced Art Major at the Academy for the Arts, Science, and Technology in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. My primary medium is oil painting. The Advanced Art Major has given me a unique experience in an art studio environment, entering various competitions, collaborating with other passionate art students, and learning about marketability and potential career paths. Throughout my experience in the major, I have been able to use my art to represent the different aspects of our personalities. This has been a great experience for me because I plan to pursue psychology as my college major and being a part of the art department at my school allows me to mix that with my passion for art.

My artwork serves to highlight how helpful learning about personality can be. It gives you a greater understanding of others, like what motivates them, what they struggle with, and even things they don’t really realize about themselves yet. It can also be helpful when you learn your own personality type because when you research it, you might find useful information about yourself: most importantly, your strengths and weaknesses. When you gain self-understanding, it allows you to be strategic in your own life.

Although my passion for psychology started in high school, I have had an affection for art from a young age. Some of my earliest memories include designing different mermaids and fairies with my younger cousin each week at my grandmother’s house. That passion is still an integral part of who I am today, and throughout high school, I have been able to explore and grow that passion.
