My name is Star. I am a junior in the Advanced Art Major at the Academy for the Arts, Science, and Technology, a STEM school in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Art has been a passion of mine ever since I was little. I can recall countless nights where I would stay up late because the enjoyment art gave me was far more appealing than sleep. Art is a form of therapy. In 2018 I had plenty of problems. My father passed away. The house I was living in burned down. Art was and still is a very stress-relieving activity for me. It helped me get through those tough times. So many emotions are in my pieces. These emotions range from happiness to anger. Instead of crying about my downfalls, I display them in a physical piece of art. I make something beautiful with my sensitive nature.
Starting my journey was very messy. A majority of artists' journeys are! As most do, I started with paper and pencil. I wasn't fortunate with plenty of art materials at first. I gained a majority of my pencil skills in that time. After a couple of years of drawing with pencil and paper, I went digital. Another messy start! My family started to recognize my artistic ability. Every Christmas and birthday, I was gifted art supplies which only pushed me along my art journey. I started practicing with markers, clay, watercolors, paint, and tons of more things. Now I enjoy working with mixed media. My current specialty is acrylic paint.
Over the years I have participated in and even won some art contests. I've also been given the opportunity to paint a whole mural in an office in North Myrtle Beach. I hope to work on more exciting pieces soon!
