This was taken at Congaree National Park, here in South Carolina. Since I started doing wildlife photography a few years ago, I've always had a fascination with warblers. I visit Francis Beidler Audubon Forest as much as I'm able, always hoping to see the Prothonotaries that are so common there. This little guy took me by surprise on my hike in Congaree - I was on the lookout for deer and hogs hiding in the swampy underbrush, when it landed a few feet away, pranced around on that patch of moss just long enough for me to snap a few shots, and then flew off. Standing there photographing this bird in such perfect light, I couldn't help but feel like it was putting on a show. I’ve had the chance of witnessing grizzly bears, bald eagles, and puffins in the wild, I still find myself equally as awed by our local songbirds like the warbler.
