Funnily enough, reference photo for this submission was captured outside of an art museum. When we moved my sister to Texas, my sisters and I decided to go to a nearby art museum. We ended up at the Menil Collection: a collection of paintings, sculptures, and works of various cultures and art styles. Outside the museum were lush plants and trees. This greenery, paired with the warm light, blue skies, and the white museum, made the backdrop for the perfect picture. I had high expectations for this piece since it was my first self-portrait. I wanted to depict the picture in both a realistic, yet minimalistic manner and to take advantage of the vivid colors in the image. I layered paint and used different tools to create texture. While working on this piece, I learned how colors change depending on the colors they are with, and how to change the lighting of a project. My first self-portrait took much of my patience and attention to detail, but I am more than satisfied with it.
