Coral is part of a body of work where I use plastics and beach trash to spread the message of conservation. Trash is a huge part of the destruction of our waters and sea life. My work demonstrates how these such items are taking over, hence why my coral is made from the plastic waste found in our waters. This abstract sculpture symbolizes the dangers facing marine life while showing the beauty of our waters and both becoming one. I continuously burned containers and individually cut plastic pieces to warp into coral-like shapes. I repeated this process generating more movement within the sculpture and attached them to make the piece flow together. I chose warm transparent colors to represent the warming temperatures of our oceans and the color transitions are a reflection of it reaching towards the sun or the surface of the water. Our waters flow and move constantly. The construction of the base was made to freeze it in time and contain the beauty.
