In this artwork, a classmate posed for a photograph for me to draw. I wanted to focus on the element of value using charcoal so I chose to photograph her in a dark space with a single light source. I loved how the light reflected off her glasses so I spent time working on the highlights within them. I also took time to show depth and to try to show emotion in my work. As the portrait fades into the darkness and slowly disappears, I wanted to show her deep in thought with a sense of melancholy.
