Through this artwork, I first wanted to convey the loneliness that one might feel in the process of growing up. The saturated colors used in this piece signify the vibrant imagination of a child. Placed in a royal chair, the child is surrounded by many toys from his childhood such as blocks, trains, and carefree doodles. The child had been living with much of the world centered on him, similar to a king. The crumbling walls behind him and his tired attitude indicate how he knows that it is time for him to move onto the next phase in life, despite some longing for a continual of his childhood as seen with the surrounding objects. Although each person needs to move forward from their childhood, their past experiences build onto their life, as represented by the same red color used for the back curtains and the red cape trailing in front of the boy. This piece captures the idea of how nobody can stay a child forever and how childhood can become an important part of one's life later on.
