I love sewing, fashion, and design, and I knew I wanted to design a dress for Artfields Jr. this year. Back in October, I thought of creating a dress inspired by the ocean because the musical I was performing at the time was The Little Mermaid. After a few days of designing and planning, I changed to a forest theme because I'm more connected to the forest than the beach. It's my happy place. I used tied-dyed felt for the dress bottom, but since the fabric has purple and blue on it, which aren’t colors you would usually see in a forest, I decided to make the dress a forest fairy’s dress. I sewed cyan tulle onto the sleeves to make wings and painted on cream tulle with my hands and sewed it to a silk strap to create a tail to drag behind the dress. I measured and sewed it all so it fits me as well as the mannequin. I hope you enjoy the dress just as much as I do! It's only the second dress I've made, and I'm really proud of it.
