Artist Statement

This piece is of a group of rainbow-colored houses on a hill in Puerto Rico. I was inspired to paint this because it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The country has such an amazing culture and people. It also offers a variety of different landscapes, from sandy beaches to mountainous jungles. The phrase "Isla Del Encanto" appears on the license plates in Puerto Rico and means "the island of dreams".

Maggie Bartashus

Murrells Inlet, SC

My name is Maggie Bartashus. I attend Waccamaw High School, and am in 11th grade. I have been creating art since I can remember. I am partially inspired by my aunt, who is also an artist. She has painted a variety of things from Christmas ornaments to large landscape paintings. I remember being little, and always being fascinated with the dried paint on her many palettes. I wrestle for Waccamaw High School and also take jiu-jitsu classes.
