A big part of my childhood that I reflect on often is my time in the water. I frequently catch myself indulging in my childhood memories to fulfill myself. Being underwater is similar to indulging in nostalgia, because when you are underwater, you are weightless and everything is quiet. When you reflect on nostalgia, you get taken into your past world. They both allow you to escape from reality. The two figures are positioned to embody the yin and yang symbol to show the importance of balancing revisiting memories and experiencing new things. I used a mixed-media base for my artwork to represent the collection of memories from my childhood. In my artwork I experimented with gold spray paint, a variety of paper, and acrylic paint. The metallic gold spray paint mirrors the reflectivity of water itself. I pushed myself to break out of the confines of a rectangular workspace to illustrate the importance of getting out of your comfort zone.
