For this art piece I was inspired by the beautiful wildlife on the Amazon rain forest, and the spiritual meaning that some of its creatures have. I chose the hummingbirds because they symbolize love and healing, and I believe that they represent a connection with the spiritual world. When I was 12 years old, I lost my dad in a car accident, and a few years prior his parents, my grandparents, passed away as well, hence the three hummingbirds. In my expression I wanted to capture a sense of frustration, or being lost, because even though it's been 6 years since my dad passed away, I still feel like it was yesterday that we were living in Colombia and I was just worried about getting home to see my parents, and now big decisions are coming, grades matter more and I feel like a burden has been brought on my shoulders about what my future will hold. I created this artwork as a reminder that even if I feel lost, I can still always count on my three hummingbirds to guide me along the way.
