On October 7, 2023, Hamas fired rockets into Israel during a Jewish holiday. They attacked homes in Kibbutzim and attendees at a music festival. 1,269 people were killed, and 240 hostages were taken by Hamas. In response, Israel immediately began air strikes on Gaza and began preventing crucial supplies from entering the region. Prime Minister Netanyahu told the residents of Gaza to evacuate, for Israel would "..be everywhere and with all our might." Since that day, I have followed the news of what's happening to Gaza: the killings, war crimes, and destruction. Seeing people in so much pain can't be easily ignored, but many in the western world don't know what's happening. News outlets downplay the suffering of civilians in Gaza. The reaction of the west brought a realization that we need to have more sympathy to those suffering and we should use our skills to shed light on present day events, because when historians write about today, the desire to change the outcome will be strong.
